Ratan Gill, BSc., MPT

Owner & Physiotherapist

Ratan opened Pure Motion Physiotherapy in an effort to pursue a personalized and community driven clinic. Working on injury prevention, recovery, and strengthening with patients ranging from young tennis players to seniors with chronic pain and limited mobility he aims to help people return to the active lifestyles they want, and enjoy their daily lives without a fear of pain.

Ratan has been served by the Richmond and Steveston community in many ways, having grown up taking tennis lessons at Steveston Community Centre, playing for the Seafair Islanders hockey team and attending Richmond Secondary School. Ratan has always had a passion for health and fitness, and went on to become a Division 1 tennis player at the University of Portland. Prior to pursing physiotherapy, he coached tennis for two years in Richmond and still continues to do so in his spare time, working with young children and adults.

After completing his Bacherlors of Science at the University of Portland, Ratan earned his Masters of Physiotherapy from the University of Sydney where he worked with athletes, amputees, patients with spinal cord injuries, seniors, and many more people and conditions that helped him become the physiotherapist he is today. He specializes in manual therapy, exercise prescription, IMS (dry needling), and education to help clients reach their highest potential and get back to doing the things they love. Using evidence-based practice to ensure everyone gets the best care possible all while working in a holistic way to view patients as people and not as an individual injury.

In his free time, you might see Ratan running with Steveston Run Crew and cycling throughout the lower mainland, or at a local tennis court playing with friends.

Takami Shirai, BKin., MPT

Physiotherapist

Takami is thrilled to be part of our vibrant community here in the heart of Steveston. Born and raised in Richmond, he has always felt a deep-rooted connection to this area and is excited to serve the place he calls home.

He received his Bachelor of Kinesiology from the University of British Columbia which laid the foundation for his career. Driven by a passion for helping others move better, he pursued a Masters of Science in Physical Therapy at the University of Toronto.

Growing up competing in sports including basketball, volleyball, and football is where Takami discovered the vital role of mobility and strength training in injury prevention. He gained valuable experience working with a diverse range of patients of all ages and those with musculoskeletal injuries and neurological conditions and his approach combines evidence-based practices which include tailored exercises in conjunction to manual therapy. Takami strives to help patients regain their functional strength and return to the activities that matter most to them.

In addition to the clinic Takami works at Richmond Hospital’s outpatient Cast Clinic and acute care settings. His dedication to community health extends past the clinic and hospital, he is the leader of Steveston Run Crew and enjoys the opportunity to share his passion for running. Outside of work, you'll find him exploring new destinations on foot or by bike.

Whether you are recovering from an injury or looking to optimize your movement, Takami is excited to guide you along the way!
